NZHGPA Certificate Requirements: POWERED PARAGLIDER

Pre-requisite                                                                                                                             

PG2 certificate or higher with logged flights on at least 8 days within the previous 9 months and a minimum 3 hours since gaining PG2. This syllabus concentrates on the additional skills required for Powered Paragliding.

 

 

A pilot under Powered Paragliding training will fly only under direct supervision of an instructor who holds a Powered Paragliding certificate.

The student will demonstrate knowledge of the following as they apply to the Powered Paraglider they are going to be flying:-

Airmanship considerations:-

The powered Paraglider Certificate may be issued when the pilot has fulfilled the following criteria in the order listed:-

 

  • Exhibit a clear understanding of the Theoretical Knowledge outlined above.
  • Demonstrate wing inflation without motor running
  • Demonstrate wing inflation with motor running
  • Demonstrate pre-take off control of aircraft
  • Demonstrate simulated post landing control of aircraft
  • Demonstrate launch abort
  • Demonstrate consistently good launch technique with forward and reverse pull-ups
  • Demonstrate three consecutive powered flights from a flat site to at least 100ft AGL, with unassisted take-off runs, smooth 90 degree left and right turns including good airspeed and throttle control and finish with stand-up power off landings including full deflation of the canopy between flights in winds of less than 5 kph.
  • Log a minimum of 15 powered flights including full deflation and inflation of canopy between flights
  • Display good Airmanship, demonstrate an ability to maneuver Powered Paragliders safely, considerately and in accordance with air traffic rules and satisfying the Instructor that the pilot has the correct attitude to continue flying both safely and competently.

 

 

When completed, send this form to the NZHGPA Administration Officer, including comments of the pilot progress, attitude and performance.

 

Requirements for gaining and maintaining a powered paraglider pilot's certificate:

  1. Have completed a Powered Conversion Course with an approved PPG Instructor.
  2. Fly at least 2 hours or 10 flights annually on a powered paraglider.

Requirements for gaining and maintaining a powered paraglider instructor certificate:

  1. Hold a Paragliding Instructor certificate.
  2. Have attended a powered paraglider Instructors seminar within the past 24 months.
  3. Have flown a powered paraglider for at least 6 months.
  4. Have logged at least 50 hrs and 100 flights in a powered paraglider.
  5. Fly at least 2 hours or 10 flights annually on a powered paraglider.
